Mindfulness for Everyday Life
Yoga + Meditation = Mindfulness for Everyday
Living
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness
teaches people to relax and stay aware in the present moment so that
they build resilience to stress and distress. Arising from Buddhist
tradition, mindfulness is making its way into mainstream settings
because it is easy to learn, and it is effective.
What does the program look like?
The 8 week program meets
weekly for a 1.5 hour session. Each class consists of 40 minutes of
Yoga, 30 minutes of instruction on mindfulness and its real-life
applications, and a 20 minute period of guided meditation, ending with a
short practice period. The course is designed to build on the learning
and practice of previous lessons so that this technique progresses from
being “known about” to “practiced” to “embodied”.
What results can be experienced?
Mindfulness practice
increases “present moment awareness” which has been shown
to benefit by:
-
Increasing relaxation
-
Increasing self-awareness
-
Helping to facilitate response rather than reaction
-
Helping to prevent stress from accumulating.
-
Bringing skills to promote life balance
This class provides many
opportunities to directly experience relaxation and ease while learning
useful techniques and strategies to increase resilience and awareness.
